Sports-related concussions have recently been an area of concern and discussion. Although the injury is incredibly common among athletes of all ages, it is not well understood. Unfortunately, this can lead people suffering from concussions to forego treatment because they do not recognize the symptoms.
The University of Arizona creators of BrainGainz, a virtual-reality app that allows users to experience the symptoms of concussion, took part in the NCAA's Mind Matters Challenge, part of a $30 million joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Defense to educate athletes and soldiers on concussion. The app simulates the symptoms of concussion to enable better identification by users when they may be concussed.
