Besides renewable biofuel production, microalgae is used for a suite of products, ranging from food supplements to feed for mammals and fish to therapeutics and cosmetics.

Drs. Bruce Rittmann and Klaus Lackner were awarded $1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to find a way to make growing microalgae more affordable and sustainable.
