Butterflies and moths are among the most abundant species on the entire planet. But did you know, fewer than five percent of the 15 million specimens in North America are catalogued online?
Neil Cobb, director of NAU’s Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research, received a $3.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to establish the Lepidoptera of North America Network, or LepNet, an online data portal that integrates nearly three million North American butterfly and moth specimen records.
