UA GRANTED $11.4 MILLION TO ADDRESS ACUTE RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME

Acute respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS, is a rapidly progressive disease that occurs in patients who are already critically ill. ARDS affects more than 200,000 patients in the United States and has a mortality rate ranging from 30 to 50 percent. UA faculty are conducting cutting-edge research that will play a major role in protecting our most vulnerable patients from this devastating disorder.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted $11.4 million to the UA for a five-year program project grant to boost a team of researchers at UA Health Sciences, led by Dr. Joe G.N. “Skip” Garcia.
