LOCAL MOTORS, ASU PARTNER ON HIGH-TECH MATERIALS R&D FOR 3D-PRINTED CAR

Three-dimensional printing is poised to eventually replace traditional means of large-scale automobile manufacture and make the entire business more efficient and affordable in the process. And so it is all the more exciting that ASU students and faculty are at the forefront of developing this application for the technology.

ASU partnered with Local Motors, the first company to 3-D print cars, as part of the 2015 Polytechnic School eProject Forum. During the project, the Local Motors-ASU team of student and faculty researchers designed, simulated and fabricated a set of test structures and test systems to increase the inter-laminar strength of 3-D printed automotive parts.
