NAU receives $3.5 million to assist Native Americans with disabilities

NAU’s Institute for Human Development exists to ensure that people with disabilities fully participate in all life experiences. For various reasons, Native Americans with disabilities face a unique set of challenges to achieving gainful employment.

To tackle the issue, the organization received a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services to establish a National American Indian Rehabilitation Training and Technical Assistance Center. As part of this effort, NAU will offer in-person and web-based training and technical assistance to 83 tribal programs funded through the American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
