According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the country’s economic vitality and national security depend on a stable, safe and
resilient cyberspace. As information technology becomes increasingly integrated with physical infrastructure operations, there is increased risk for wide scale or high-consequence events that could cause harm or disrupt services that our economy and the daily lives of millions of Americans depend on.
Northern Arizona University’s new School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) was formed in 2016 to meet the need for advanced interdisciplinary computational and data sciences where NAU can have great success attracting tremendous talent to refine this focused area of
research expansion. This research-intensive academic unit brings together
expertise in computer science, electrical engineering, eco/environmental
informatics, and bio/health informatics.
A major part of this initiative is investing in research faculty and academic programs in the very specialized discipline of cybersecurity. Through SICCS, NAU aims to quickly grow its cybersecurity research capabilities and develop innovative solutions for both commercial and national security applications.
